Recycle your old yoga mat

We’ve partnered with TerraCycle to recycle your old yoga mat.

TerraCycle is the Australian leader in recycling the “non-recyclable” (waste that is typically sent to landfill or incineration).

It’s technically possible to recycle almost everything, but due to high recycling costs and low value post-process, products such as yoga mats aren’t deemed financially viable to recycle and so aren’t accepted for recycling by Australian waste management companies. This means that the vast majority of old yoga mats end up in landfill.

This is where Pure Practice and TerraCycle step in.

We buy a Zero Waste Box™ from TerraCycle and fill it with the worn-out, dirty yoga mats that you send us. When the box is full we send it to TerraCycle who shred the mats and recycle them into soft formatting for Australian playgrounds and sporting pitches.

Ready to recycle your old yoga mat?

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Email info@purepractice.com.au with the subject heading “Recycle” – we’ll email you our mailing address.
  2. Package up your old mat – instead of rolling it, fold it up like a towel – this will make it cheaper to post.
  3. Post the mat to us (postage costs are at your expense but that’s a small price to pay knowing you’re truly recycling your mat and reducing waste!)

Currently in Australia, so few old yoga mats are recycled - this creates a significant environmental impact. By working together, we can recycle more yoga mats and take a step towards a more sustainable future.
